Lesson 8

Quaker Chewy
Low Fat Chocolate Chunk
90 Calorie Granola Bars

The strongest argument of this package would probably be that it is “low fat chocolate chunk”
The “90 Calories” is what would prompt me to buy it again because it is chocolate, but low on calories and fat. It doesn’t get much better than that.

My visual for my research paper is Rosie the Riveter saying “We can do it”
I found that this picture will support my research as to how women became equal in the workforce.

Re.: Research Paper Topic and Thesis

I have developed an interest in women’s roles in history and would like to do my research paper on working women in the 1940s and their transition to housewives in the 1950s. I would like to research why women who did not want to give up their jobs did, was someone forcing them to?

I am currently seeking information on my research topic from our public library and the internet. My targeted audience is women who would like to learn how women became equal in the workforce and the driving force behind it.

Please approve topic before Friday 28 March 2008. Thank You

Lesson 7

The audience that my essay is directed toward is people who believe that global warming is all natural and not at all human induced. In my essay I state facts and show studies on evidence which proves humans are the main contributors to global warming. My thesis is that individuals need to be educated and on how to decrease pollution and other factors which contribute to the earth’s climate change. I believe the audience will be persuaded by my claims because of the evidence and backup to my argument. I think that my evidence and sources are reliable and my audience will find the studies helpful in educating them on prevention of global warming.

Bush pix

In the first image of President Bush, he is shown clearing brush on a hot Texas day. The image portrays Bush as an average Texan doing everyday labor work like many hardworking Americans. The cowboy hat shows that he is a typical Texan. This image emphasizes that he is a hard worker.
In the second photo of Bush greeting a crowd at a press conference suggest that Bush is down to earth and jumps right into the crown to become one of us. The elderly woman in this photo makes me think she is his mom, showing his love for family. The girl standing behind Bush looks frightened, maybe a metaphor for Bush being a protector of Americans, Americans being all of the people behind him.
The third photo of Bush standing in from of Mount Rushmore jumped out at me the most. Bush is incorporated into the monument of the most historical leaders in history. The upward angle of the photo suggests leadership and control.

Lesson 5

As said in the previous blog, I prefer using idea mapping and pros and cons for my prewriting because I have used them in the past. Idea mapping helps when putting the essay together. You already have the layout for your paper. I do not like the freewriting style of prewriting because it is hard to combine all of the ideas once they are down on paper in no particular format. During this lesson I have learned that it is much more helpful to do more than one prewriting activity. When I sat down and wrote out ideas for both sides of the argument, it gave me better ideas for a thesis. I would like to know what prewriting techniques the other student prefer. I have learned that Mrs. Kline knows how helpful previewing and prewriting is and that is why it is incorporated into each lesson.

Lesson 4

The supporting evidence I used for my claim in lesson four was from personal experience. My essay was on success and I found it much more beneficial to use personal experience for this claim. The research I did on success did not help much. I think my essay on success would get a 8/10. The subject was not easy to develop into an argument. I felt that idea mapping and using pros and cons list were the most helpful prewriting teqniques I used. I have used these teqniques in the past and felt most comfortable with them. I had help from a co-worker with the revision process because I had a hard time getting started. The goal of my argument was that if you work hard for something you really want, and if you put everything you have into that task, you will succeed. Previewing the text is helpful for me because it gives me an idea of how I will develop the argument and essay structor.
